Kalyani, also known as the smart city, is a municipality town situated at the banks of the river Hooghly in the Nadia district of the West Bengal state. The Kalyani picnic garden of the West Bengal Forest Department located within three minutes walking distance from the Kalyani Simanta Railway Station. Fourteen shades of different sizes available in the plot for the picnic activity. All these have tile, concrete and tin sheds. The plot is the point of entertainment both for the children and the grown-ups. For the children, there is a “Children Corner” inside the plot where swings, sea-saw, slip, merry-go-round available for the amusement for the children. The grown-ups could also play any game of their choice in the attached plot located beside. The plot is surrounded by the thick growth of green trees that give an opportunity to glimpse on the natural beauty. Besides, the seasonal flowers are the other best attraction of the garden. If you wish you could buy small shrubs from the nursery. Besides, the garden is well facilitated with water, bathroom and toilet facilities for the visitors.
Charges
The entry-fee per person in the garden is RS 15. The booking charges for different shades varies. For instance, the booking charges for the pagoda shed is RS 200 while the booking charges for the tile shed is RS 500. However, the charges for the open ground picnic, under the sky, is RS 100.
Food
You may carry all the necessary materials from home for the picnic and cook inside the garden or you may hire those from the market located outside the garden. There is also catering facility available in the garden if you don't want to cook food.
Nearby attractions: Visit Triveni or the Hanseshwari Temple of Bansberia located on the other side of the river Ganga. Provided you have some in hand time, plan to visit the famous Gandhi Ghat, located in Barrackpore.
To get there
Board Kalyani Simanta Local from the Sealdah North or the Sealdah Main Station, Kolkata and get down at the Kalyani Simanta Railway Station. The garden locates within three minutes from the railway station. Besides, you may board any other local train as well like the Ranaghat Local, Krishnanagar Local, Gede Local, Shantipur Local, etc., and get down at the Kalyani Station (Main). Next board bus number 27 or an auto to reach the garden.
However, if you are travelling in you own vehicle, your route would be via the Kalyani-Barrackpore Expressway.
