Lakshmanpur located at the banks of the Gomti river is today's Lucknow. According to the Ramayana, Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama, founded the city after returning to Ayodhya from Lanka. How to reach
This capital city of Uttar Pradesh connects well by the road and railways with the Varanasi. Varuna express departs from the Varanasi Cantonment at 6am every day and reaches Lucknow at 10pm. Besides, the Doon express, Punjab Mail, Amritsar Mail, etc., also departs from the Varanasi for Lucknow.
The distance between Varanasi and Lucknow is 320 kilometres. The Cruise AC Volvo departs from the Central Bus Terminus of Varanasi for Lucknow at 8am. Besides, night service buses available at the 10:30 pm and 11 pm. The bus fare ranges from RS 800 to RS 900. However, the State Transport Bus fare ranges from RS 300 to RS 400. The Rahi Hotel Gomti, a state tourism hotel, located 4 kilometres from the station at Sapru Marg. Rent ranges here from RS 2000 to RS 3000. The checkout time is 12 hours.
Attractions
Bus for the Lucknow sightseeing departs from Hotel Gomti, Sapru Marg at 9:30 am every day. The fare per person Rs 200 including the guide charges and entry fees. For booking of sightseeing, one has to contact the Char Bagh Tourism Office or hotel at the station. Besides, Hotel Gomti charges RS 1200 to RS 1500 for car booking. Bara Imambara

Built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula also known as the Asifi Imambara. Although a big attraction of the city, it has its own interesting story for the visitors. The intention of the Nawab, behind building this structure, extend relief to his subjects by providing them with employment at a time when they were suffering from the Famine of 1784. One interesting feature of this religious building that it built without any supporting pillars. Every year Muslims gather here to worship at this important sacred place during the Muharram festival.
Bhulbhulaiya
The Bhulbhulaiya located at the upper basement of the Bara Imambara accessible by a staircase. The decorated Entry Gate displays the art of the then times. The Asfi Mosque located beside it. It opens from 6am to 5pm every day. Though the entry fee RS 35, but for children within 12 years need to pay RS 20. The guide charges for the Bhulbhulaiya RS 100 for a couple, RS 125 for three to five people, RS 175 for six to ten people and RS 200 for eleven to fifteen people. Chota Imambara
One may move further from the Bara Imambara through the Rumi Darwaza to the Chota Imambara. Muhammad Ali Shah built it during the 18th century and known as the Hussainabad Imambara. It has earned names like the Palace of lights because on special occasions like Muharram, it dazzles with lights and chandeliers. The inside of the monument as attractive as the outside. It houses the crowns of kings, tazias and has wonderful decoration on the four walls.
Clock Tower
The Clock Tower located between the Bara Imambara and the Chota Imambara. Built in 1880 by Nawab Nasiruddin, it stands more than 220 feet tall. The tower has a big clock on it giving it the perfect look. It boasts as the biggest Clock Tower in the country even today.
Jama Masjid
Also popular as the Jami Masjid built by Ahmad Shah in 1423. The beautiful mosque constructed with yellow stones located at the centre of the capital city. One important and religious mosque for the Muslims, as they gather here for prayer, peace and blessing. The vast courtyard, the big hall and the magnificent pillars reveal the artistic excellence of the mosque.
Best time to travel
It experiences cool winters, hot summers and incessant rain during the monsoon. The temperature gets to the extreme in any of the seasons. Though one may travel here any time of the year, but keeping the comfort level in mind, one should travel here during the winter when the weather remains pleasant. So the best time stretches from October to March.
