The Swargadwar
It means door to heaven and a perfect place for the visitors to take the first holy dip before starting the day. People believe, once Shri Chaitanya Dev took the maiden dip in this holy waters of the sea. According to tradition, taking a holy dip here sanctifies one from sin. The golden sea beach holds testimony that the big waves of the Bay of Bengal touching its feet through the ages. The Jagannath Temple
After taking the holy dips in the Swargadwar, one may go ahead to visit the historical temples. One may walk or hire a rickshaw to go to the Jagannath temple. A 22 steps ascend takes one to the doors of the temple. The four doors of the temple facing the north, south, east and west known as the Lion Gate, Tiger Gate, Elephant Gate and the Horse Gate. The Konark Sun Temple
The temple popular as the 'Black Pagoda' dedicated to the Sun God. Since, the structure made of black granite hence is the name. King Narasimha Deva-1 build it in the 13th Century. The temple constructed in the theme of the Sun God's Chariot, pulled by the seven horses. The seven horses stand for the seven week days while the 24 giant chariot wheels symbolize the 24 hours day. The Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary
