Turning points can have both positive and negative impact on a person. However, make no mistake that when it boils down to travel and tour a turning point always helps. Sometimes, life leave us in a dicey proposition – either it gives us such a tight fit that living becomes uncomfortable or loosens things up to the extent of dropping our self-belief. To move out from this freaky experience, we feel like running away, far away from the concrete cities to the lap of greenery. A place we could breathe green oxygen peacefully into our lungs without any disturbance. In such a scenario, the spot I refer to is Sabuj Bon under Bahiri Panch Soya panchayat at the Birbhum district.

Attractions and activities

Sabuj Bon is located in the Rasulpur village at the Birbhum district of the West Bengal state. It’s situated thirteen kilometres away from the Shantiniketan at Bolpur. Here, the day breaks with a cool and calm morning in a tranquil atmosphere. This calmness would lure you to leave your bed early and move out in the open to experience the versatility of the morning nature. Soon you would realise that depression, jealousy and tension left you behind from the backdoor. Image the excitement of being in a place for a day where neither anyone recognises you nor you are in your regular boundary zone. Your soul would be more than glad to lend you a new meaning to enjoy your life once again.

Eye catching greenery at Sabuj Bon
As you walk through the uneven red soil of the region, you could discover a variety of trees, herbs, shrubs and flowers all around. Flowers like jasmine, pin wheel, croton, Christ thorn, etc., enhance the aesthetic value of the region. Moreover, you would be glad to discover the colourful blooming flowers nudging their heads up from the surrounding greenery. If you get tired after a morning or an evening walk, you may take some rest in the widespread outfield resembling a green carpet around. The soft and cool breeze, the chirping songs of the birds from behind the leaves and branches would certainly fill your heart with romance.

Next, you may quench the thirst of your eyes by having a glimpse on the mango, guava, strawberry, safeda and the bell fruit trees stand on your way. Enjoy the moment by watching the different types of bird’s nest and the playful monkeys moving around in complete freedom. Well, at this point your ear may buzz up with an inner unknown sound like this – “Welcome Mr. X to the kingdom of garden croton, cactus, cycus, palm, adenium, etc.” All these would certainly make your outing a memorable one.

The Ajoy river flowing through the region deserves a special mention and is one of the main attractions that catch the visitors eye here. The river remains busy with visitors enjoying boating on its crystal clear water and fishermen with nets. You may come across fishes and prawns of different shapes, sizes and colours. During winter the bank of the river gets crowded with elders, youngsters and the aged coming here for picnic.

How to get there
