44th Subhash Mela 2015 at APC Roy Park/Kankurgachi Big Park

Subhash Mela (fair) is much like a heritage fair of Purba (East) Kolkata. The fair organised by the Purba Kolkata Subhash Mela Committee at the APC Roy Park also known as the Kankurgachi Big Park. To celebrate the "Netaji Jayanti" event of our great national hero and freedom fighter, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose the fair gets organised at this park every year for one month. The fair has started on 23rd of January, 2015 and would last until 22nd February, 2015. This year the fair is remarkable because it celebrates its 44th anniversary. So you have enough time in hand to plan your visit at the fair along with your friends and family on any given day during the time-period. I presume you haven't been there yet, but here is an opportunity for you to find out what is there in store for you at the fair.




More than 200 stalls set up in the park. On entering the park you would be greeted with a sweetmeat stall preparing and selling confectionery items like jalebi and variety of salty items as well. On the adjacent side you would notice shops selling interesting books for the children. If sweetmeats and children books fail to draw your likings and you find yourself in a topsy-turvy state, move ahead. As you move ahead you would find variety of stalls on the either side. These stalls displaying and selling items of regular household uses including eatables like pickles of different tastes. Besides, some of the stalls display stainless steel utensils, blankets, bed-covers, bags, toys, etc.

Apart from the various stalls spreading around the park you may get attracted by some of the State Government Pavilions. You would find separate pavilions dedicated for tourism office, fire extinguishing, emergency service office, irrigation and water transport department, water resource research and development office, eastern railway, etc.

However, the small and medium-sized business pavilions would earn your interest. You would find shopping items ranging from silk sarees, cotton sarees to decoration flowers and soft toys for children. Moreover, special attention paid to the interest of children. The fair has the Ramayan Katha and Subhas Bhavan located beside it for the children.

So what you are waiting for? Cut-off a few hours from your busy schedule and come here to spend some quality time along with your family and children. Hop stalls, buy items that you need and have some excitement by enjoying some rides tailor-made for entertainment of the visitors here. Well, if you find yourself hungry after these activities make sure to grab some of your favourite snacks. After all, a few hours of entertainment would set up you mood for the next day. But keep in mind, the fair would last until 22nd of February, 2015. The entry time is from 5pm to 9pm everyday.
