Science City in Kolkata: Attractions, Activities, Location and Conveyance

Kolkata has come down a long way and marching ahead with the times. It has its own rich history, culture, traditions and heritage. Not only it has climbed the ladder of success steadily, but also earned loyalties from people who came closer to it at any point of time in the past. Since it has won several hearts with its awesome characteristics and features people love to refer it as the City of Joy and the City of Palaces. It's gifted with spots of historical significance, lively and spirited rivers and lakes, memorable museums, theatres, multiplexes, plazas and interesting places that add to the overall experience of travel and tourism.





Today Life Breezy describing about one such interesting place, that is the Science City in Kolkata. The Science Centre built with the idea to promote new scientific principles and approaches among the common people including the science enthusiasts. However, it has given equal relevance to other important streams like the arts and commerce as well. It answers many unsolved queries of the young minds systematically through representations and displays including how the mother Earth was in the past, the type of flora, fauna and life prevailing during the time.


After a through research the Dhapa dumping ground, stretching over an area of fifty acres of land, at the Park Circus-Easter Bypass Connector selected as the suitable spot for its construction. The official address is J.B.S Haldane Avenue, Kolkata, West Bengal – 700046. This landmark centre is under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and inaugurated by the ex-prime minister of India, Inder Kumar Gujral in 1997. The first phase of the Science Centre completed with an expenditure of around sixty crores. Since the centre built with the vision for hands on entertainment and experiences through postulation of science out of the fifty acres of available space only a small part covered with concrete structures and the rest surrounded with greenery.

The Science Centre has many galleries like the Dynamotion Hall, Earth Exploration Hall, Evolution Park, Space Odyssey, Maritime Centre, Convention Centre Complex, etc. The Maritime Centre deserves a special mention because it takes one to the time line of ancient shipping history, sailors and discover of countries. These educate and entertain to the core leaving one to wonder in astonishment. They simply keep one spellbound in admiration. Besides, one could enjoy rides like the Road Toy Train ride, Cable Car ride, Caterpillar ride, Monorail Cycle ride, Gravity Coaster, etc. Moreover, one could relax in the open lush green surrounding enjoying the Musical Fountain, viewing the well-maintained Colourful Flowers, sitting in the children parks, etc. The parks have all the necessary equipment for entertainment of children as well.

The Science City Aquarium has wonderful collection of colourful fishes of different shapes, sizes and colours. It is one of those lively zones of the park where you would find visitors crowding in volumes. It keeps the visitors busy for sometime as the fishes draw their attention towards them. Science City is open for the visitors all the days of the week from 9am to 9pm. The entry fee is RS 40 per person is mandatory while other fees including rides are optional. The charges for the Space Theatre is RS 60 per person, Time Machine is RS 20 per person, Evolution Park is RS is RS 10, etc.

From the Howrah Station bus number 24A/1 available for the Science City. From the Dharmatala bus terminus bus number E2 available for the Science City. Taxis available from different corners of the city.

This science wonder called Science Centre built by a huge financial expenditure. It's the second Science Centre after Tokyo that reflects the accomplishment in the arena of science for not only the metropolitan city of Kolkata, but whole of India. Surely, everyone benefited to the core with the modern scientific entertainment and excitement that this project unveils and it would carry on with its attempt in the future as well. We would remain indebted and proud forever of this wonder gift of Science to the humanity.
