Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2015

To determine the eligibility for teaching in the central government schools of the country, India, the Central Teacher Eligibility Test would be held on 22nd of February, 2015. However, to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching students from classes 1 to the VIII in the central government schools, the first CTET examination held in June, 2011. The examination would be held under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Interested candidates to undergo this examination should apply online before 8th of January, 2015.




Benefits of this examination

After successfully clearing the examination, candidates would earn the eligibility for teaching from classes 1 to VIII in the central government, private and government aided schools. Besides, successful candidates would also qualify to teach in the schools of Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Delhi. Moreover, the private schools and the state government schools could use the result of the CTET while considering the selection of teachers in schools. Besides, if schools publish advertisements for teaching vacancy, candidates having this (CTET) qualification could apply for the same. The sore card of this examination would be applicable from the date of result until seven years.

RTE Act of the NCTE

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in 2010 has made the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) compulsory and minimum qualification to get appointed as teachers to teach from Classes 1 to VIII. The TET examination would run under the guidelines of the NCTE.

Required qualification for the CTET examination: (as teachers of Classes I to V)

  • 50 percent marks in the 10+2 examination and 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education. OR
  • 50 percent marks in the 10+2 examination and 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (BLD).OR 
  • 50 percent marks in the 10+2 examination and 2 years Diploma in Education (Special Education).OR
  • 45 percent marks in the 10+2 examination and 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education as per NCTE regulation, 2002. OR
  • Graduate and 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education.


Required qualification for CTET examination: (as teachers of classes VI to VIII)

  • Graduate and 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education. OR
  • 50 percent marks in the Graduation and I year B. Ed Degree. OR
  • 45 percent marks in the Graduation and I year B. Ed Degree under NCTE. OR
  • 50 percent marks in the Graduation and 4 years Bachelor Degree of Elementary Education. OR
  • 50 percent marks in the Graduation and 4 years BA/BSC (ED). OR
  • 50 percent marks in the Graduation and I year B. Ed (Special Education).


Candidates belonging to OBC, Schedule and Physically Handicapped category would get five percent relaxation in marks for the 10+2, Graduation and other courses.

Age – There is no age limit set for candidates undertaking this examination. However, successful candidates need to adhere the age limits published in the advertisement of schools for appointment.

Nature of examination

CTET examination would have multiple choice questions. There would be two papers; candidates seeking to be the teachers of classes 1 to V need to attempt the first paper and candidates seeking to be the teacher of classes VI to VIII need to attempt the second paper only. However, candidates seeking to be the teacher of classes I to VIII need to attempt both papers.

Syllabus and Time

Syllabus for the examination available in www.ctet.nic.in. The date of examination is on 22nd of February, 2015. The time for the second paper is 9:30 am and the time for the first paper is 2 pm. Candidates need to attempt each paper in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The examination centres for the West Bengal candidates are Kolkata and Durgapur.

Online application and fees

Candidates need to apply online from the www.ctet.nic.in website. Candidates need to have a working e-mail ID. Besides, candidates need to upload a scanned photograph and signature with the application form. Examination fee of RS 600 (one paper) and RS 1000 (both paper) need to be paid through a Challan or by Debit/Credit card. For ST/ ST the examination fee is RS 300 (one paper) and RS 500 (both paper). Extra charges charged by the bank are service charges and service taxes.

Candidates paying through the challan should deposit the fees in CBSE account via any of the branches of the Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank. The last date of depositing the fee is 10th of January, 2015.

After submission of the online application form candidates should download/collect the print out of the system generated confirmation page along with the registration number. They should keep the print out for future reference purpose only.
