Fatty liver means an increase in the weight of the liver by 15 to 20 percent due to the building up of triglyceride and cholesterol in the liver cells over a period of time. The disease does not affect one within a span of one or two days. Rather, the problematic condition arises from the problems one goes through over time. Problems of obesity, diabetes, high lipid profile and certain habits like consumption of alcohol, junk food could result in fatty liver problem in due time. Besides, secondary reasons like intake of certain groups of medicines, deficiency of iron, Wilson disease lead to the problem.

One may not know exactly when the disease affected him/her in the regular course of life. During the early stages one may have no symptoms, but with time it would reveal certain symptoms through which it gets detected. Symptoms like itching pain on the right side of the tummy, indigestion, vomiting, sweating, confusion, fatigue, losing the natural skin colour, increase in weight, etc., relate the disease closely.
Following unhealthy lifestyle like sitting long hours at a particular place, eating junk foods and doing less physical activities/labour gets one prone to the disease directly or indirectly. A physician may advise liver function test (LFT) and ultrasonography test to detect the disease for proper remedy.

One needs to follow an ideal lifestyle to prevent oneself from fatty liver conditions. Even if someone gets affected with the simple fatty liver disease, he/she could regain health by maintaining a controlled lifestyle as the disease itself reversible in nature. - One needs to keep the body weight in check through controlled diet and regular exercise.
- One needs to give up alcohol consumption.
- Following a strict diet chart mandatory.
- One should replace fried/spicy food stuffs and cold drinks with nuts, whole grain foods, green vegetables, fibrous fruits and salads.
- Sometimes, fatty liver condition arises because of a disease patient already affected with. In such a scenario, first one needs to go for the treatment of the already existing disease.
