Binsar was once famous as the summer capital of the Chand kings. They took pride in ruling their kingdoms from here for a long time. However, today the region under the Binsar Forest Reserve. Dense growth of the deodar, pine, rhododendron surrounds the region. This region famous among visitors for its wildlife sanctuary, scenic beauties and tranquil atmosphere. They come here, spend their days in the natural greenery and enjoy activities that keep them warm in their spirits for long. The locals, living here fluent in English, Hindi and the local Kumaoni language.




How to reach

Binsar located 35 kilometres away from Almora. Learn more about Almora, its attractions and how to reach there from the website. You need to pay an entry fee of RS 150 per person at the check post to enter the jungle. If you visit in a car, you need to pay RS 250 extra.

Attractions and Activities

Visitors crowd here in good numbers throughout the year to watch different species of birds, exploring temples, walking/trekking through the region and enjoying the jungle safari according to the suitability.

Once you reach there, make sure to get up early in the morning to experience the beauty of the early sunrise and the surrounding landscape. Witness the exquisite elegance of the Himalayas stretching beyond 350 kilometres. Book a room in advance at the KMVN hotel to rest assure that you are going to glimpse snow-caps of the Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, Nandadevi, Nandakot, Panchachuli, etc.

Jhandi Dhar is one famous hill of Binsar. The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary stretches around 45 Kilometres square including this hilly region. You may visit here around the year, except the monsoon. The main attractions of the sanctuary include the wild species like the leopard, deer and birds.

Two kilometres away from the KMVN hotel locates the Jhandi Dhar View Point. From here, you would notice the surrounding beauty of mountains, hills and forests. Since the Binsar forest is dense, you may view the live sight of the rarest wild species if fortune favours. Moreover, the Sunset Point located one kilometres away from the Forest Bungalow. The Binsar Mahadev Temple located four kilometres away from the KMVN hotel. The temple founded by the King Kalyan Chand around 800 years ago. A Shivling rests inside the temple. Just beside it, locates the Goddess Durga Temple surrounded by forests on all its sides.

Make sure not to move out after the sunset as forest animals like leopards often prowl here. Besides, never trail in the unknown regions of the jungle without a guide.

Best time to travel

Summer temperature ranges from 30 to 35 degree Celsius while the winter temperature ranges from 0 to 12 degree Celsius. You may travel here any time of the year except the monsoon.
