Birth and Parenting
He was born on 14th November, 1889 in the city of Prayag in Hyderabad. His father Motilal Nehru was a famous lawyer and his mother was Swarup Rani. Motilal Nehru was a talented lawyer and he used to earn more than RS 25,000 per month when more than 20 Kilogrammes of rice available in Re 1. Motilal raised his only child with great passion, nurture and care. He was fortunate to born in a family which reared him up as a personality with strong character and determination. This is one significant reason this son did not let down his father or family's name in the future.
Education and marriage
He took preliminary education at home. At the age of 24, he went to the Harrow school in England for higher education. After two years, he pursued the BA and MA from the Trinity college under the Cambridge University. In 1912, he returned home as a barrister. Since, he returned after achieving higher studies from abroad he could have secured a better government service, but he did not give it much importance because of the foreign rule. Instead, he carried on with the profession of a lawyer. However, he left this profession soon and joined selflessly in the freedom struggle. He married Kamala Nehru who later proved herself as an ideal wife to her husband.
Performance and work
The call of mother India made him join the freedom struggle to free India from slavery. His acquaintances with other great leaders including the father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, swayed him into the then new breeze of patriotism. He raised his voice against the foreign rule and demanded 'Swaraj' or 'Self Rule' for the country. He was then the ruling president of the, All India Congress Samity. Besides, he had the honor of holding this place of office thrice in his lifetime. Though he was taken into custody many times, but Mother India was happier to have a son like him to fight for her freedom struggle from the foreign oppression. Finally, the bondage of slavery ended in 1947 and the country once again breathed free after a huge gap of time line. The people of free India chose Jawaharlal Nehru as their leader to lead in the future. In the elections of 1952, 1957 and 1962 he was successfully re-elected by the people as the prime minister of the country and he held his office for seventeen long years. This shows popularity of the leader among the masses. Known as the architect of modern India, in 1955, he received the Bharat Ratna award.
Post Independence scenario
Politically, India achieved her freedom, but in reality, it had to set up the economic and social freedom. He played a big role to do this uphill and daunting task. Soon the five-year plan got introduced, new factories/industry/business rolled out and foundations were laid to set the country on the right track of culture, civilisation and development. He followed this simple philosophy in life – “Rest is a waste of time and energy” and due to this out of the box principles and qualities chosen as the prime minister thrice in his lifetime.
End of the golden era
He was the apple of an eye for every Indian. He was a great human being with reasonably good political thoughts and new ideas. Besides, he was the follower of peace, harmony and spread calmness among the people everywhere. Moreover, he was also a great author and some of his greatest literary works include “Bharat Ki Khoj” (Discovery of India), “Vishwa Itihas Ki Jhalak” (Glimpses of World History, “Pita Ke Patra Putri Ke Naam”, (Letter from a father to his daughter) etc. He carried on his responsibilities and duties towards India well, but on May 27th 1964 he passed away. The nation and its people wept for this great son of the country. He rests in peace at “Shanti Vana”, but his noble deeds would always stay alive and inspire every countrymen to the full.
