Beyond any doubt the Amrakunja Picnic Garden is an ideal spot for a day’s picnic in the Hooghly district. It is located at Mankundu, a small suburb town in the West Bengal State. The spot right now, drawing cheers and jeers in equal measures. In fact, it’s more than a picnic spot; rather, it’s turning out to be a de-stressing zone for the neighbouring visitors. People from the surrounding regions including the metropolitan city Kolkata converge in the region for an interesting day’s outing in the winter.

Amrakunja Picnic Garden at Mankundu

The word “Amra” means mango and the word “Kunja” means garden. Hence, the word Amrakunja means mango garden. This mango orchard spreads over three acres of land. Surrounded by walls on its sides, the inside of the garden is painted with the natural colours of greenery. It’s no mean feat for this garden to earn the fame of a suitable picnic spot in such a short span of time.

However, in the question of fairness it’s important to mention here that the garden also hosts parties, weddings, events, camps and other social gatherings along with picnic activities. During the peak season, beginning from November to March, it remains open from 10am to 6pm every day.

Get down at Mankundu Station
It’s well-connected by the road and rail routes with Kolkata. Main line local trains like the Bandel, Burdwan and Katwa locals are available from the Howrah Station for the Mankundu Station. The Mankundu Rail Station comes after the Bhadreshwar Station and before the Chandannagar Station. The spot is located at the left side of the Mankundu Station. An under way from the station leads to the main road. From here, the spot is at a five minutes walking distance straight from the station. Alternatively, one may reach the spot through G T Road by the roadway.
