In this blog-post we are going to discuss and disclose the top Durga Puja attractions in the East Kolkata. Of course, we are including their unique themes, their celebration years, decoration of the pandals and the style of the idols as well. So, here is your chance to grab some preliminary idea before you finally move out for pandal hopping in East Kolkata region of the city this Durga Puja.
Telenga Bagan (Ultadanga)
It has entered the golden jubilee year of its celebration and this year its theme is “Telenga Baganey Bagan.” The theme means a park in Telenga Bagan. Hearing the term Telenga Bagan engrosses our mind with the thought of a beautiful green park, isn’t it? Even though the reality is a bit different, but this year an attempt is made to bloom flowers in this park consisting of bricks, woods and stones. The inspiration is gathered from the famous Sunflower oil paint of the famous painter Vincent Van Gogh. Some of the prime attractions here include the giant artificial sun of fifty feet size and the giant sunflower.
Ultadanga Bidhan Sangha
It enters the 48th year of celebration and its theme is “Sraboner Dhara” which in English means showers of the monsoon. The goddess is going to be worshipped here amidst artificial rain. So, an artificial climax of the monsoon weather is crafted together with the display of a giant rainbow, dragonfly, peacock, etc. The mandap is decorated with clips, blades and glasses of specs. Notably, the goddess Durga idol is standing here impressively in a Bharat Natyam posture.
Korbagan (Ultadanga)

It is celebrating 68th year of celebration and its theme is “Matri Angikey Matri Mandap.” The theme means the matri murti (idol) is used in building the mandap. The goddess is holding the Trishula (trident) to control and win over the evil demon. Besides, the presence of a giant sibling is another attraction of the mandap. The entire mandap decorated with masks showcase creative from the very outset.
Ultadanga Jubak Brindo
Its 48th year theme is “Ranga Matir Songey.” The catch line of the theme is together with the red soil. The open mandap is crafted with red mud in terracotta style. The nine and a half feet idol of the goddess has the touch of folk art. It’s another noteworthy attraction of East Kolkata.
Kolaghata Sammilani
Its 37th year theme is “Jhalapala” which means the effects of sound pollution. The entire mandap is decorated with items that cause various types of sound pollution or excessive noise like the horns of rickshaws, cars, buses and different types of crackers. This is a humble effort taken for social awareness against the noise pollution.
Laketown Netaji Sporting Club
Its 36th year theme is “Dangaye Na Joley” which means choose between riverbank or water. The mandap is crafted in the Rajasthani Haveli mode surrounded by water and is decorated with materials like ply, thermocol, etc. The goddess idol is crafted in Rajasthani style.
Patipukur Netaji Sangha
Its 26th year theme is “Bansh Theke Banshi” which means flute from bamboo. The catch line is bamboo is used in various social works in our society. Moreover, bamboo is used in artworks as well beginning from toys to the preparation of idols. So, in this puja mandap goddess is found to be in a bamboo garden. Besides, Bamboo artwork is used for decoration and ornaments as well. The whole atmosphere would take us to the nostalgic rural Bengal village for some time.
Dumdum Park Tarun Dal Sarbojanin
Its 38th year theme is “Hethay Horogourir Thaye, Tai Shiber Gajan Gai” which means here lord Shiva and goddess Durga live, therefore we are singing songs in praise of lord Shiva. At the entrance, a big oxen of 28x40 feet size is made with ghungroos (metallic bells of anklet). Besides the surrounding is decorated with Trishul (three pronged trident), damaru (small two headed drum). The main mandap resembles that of a temple and the idol has a marble effect which lends a soothing effect to the eyes.
