Habra town is situated in the North 24 Parganas district of the West Bengal State. Its strategical location makes it a favourable town for importing and exporting goods with the neighbouring country Bangladesh. Enjoying a literacy rate of more than ninety percent the town is in the probable list of cities to be developed as the Smart City of India in the coming years. Located merely 48 kilometres from the Sealdah Station of Kolkata it’s well-connected with the metropolitan with plenty of local trains and buses.


The Millenium Science Park developed in the Habra town of the North 24 Parganas district is like a paradise for picnickers in Kolkata and the surrounding region. On a foggy winter morning move out in a group to this nearest picnic spot located merely ninety minutes away from the Kolkata city.


Attractions and activities


This picnic spot is known affectionately for the surrounding covered by the trees of a most peculiar shade of green. On the very first glance, it would remind you that it sat nestled away from the noise and clamour of the rest of the world, perfectly content with itself. You may enter the park by paying a nominal entry fee of RS 15 and for the children below the age of twelve years it’s RS 10. The fit and finish of the spot is absolutely noteworthy. Blessed by the bounty of nature and wonder of Science the spot has a huge water body at one of its corners. The bank of the waterbody resembles like that of an armchair comfortably placed for the visitors. Explore the green shade of different types of trees, beautifully seasonal decorated gardens, green lawn of grasses, fountains, Science Museum, ropeway, etc with your kith and kin. In between the picnic activities enjoying a boat ride would be an extremely welcome idea which you would not like to miss for sure. At one corner of the park there are items like swings, fountains, ropeway, swimming boat, metro bus, Science Museum for the entertainment of kids. Moreover, the fifty seated Planetarium is the new attraction of the spot.

The boating fee per person is RS 15, bus ride is RS 5, Dragon train ride is RS 10, entry fee of Science Museum is RS 5, entry fee at the planetarium is RS 15 and ropeway ride is RS 15 per person. This is one area of development where you would have the option to choose between five picnic spots. That said, the rent for the guest house (three rooms with attached bathrooms) is RS 2000 only. The rent of spots with tin shades is RS 1000, RS 800 and RS 500 respectively. The rent for the open sky spot is RS 400 only. You may book a spot in advance, at your leisure, if you wish. Catering facility is available here and all the items for decoration including cooking gas and oven is available on rent as well. The park remains open from 2:30 pm to 7pm every day except Tuesday.

Nearby attraction: Provided you have time in hand you may visit Chakla Dham Temple located twelve to fourteen kilometres away from the spot. It’s the birthplace of Baba Lokenath.

To get there


Board a local train like the Bangaon Local, Habra Local, Gobardanga Local, Thakurnagar Local from the Sealdah Station (north section) and get down at the Ashoknagar or the Habra Station. The spot lies three kilometres away from the station. Next, hire a van or an auto rickshaw for Radha Chemical Crossing towards Millenium Park. However, if you travel by the roadway from Kolkata you need to go via Jessore Road towards Ashoknagar Building Crossing to Millenium Park.
