Park Circus Maidan: A lively Park in Central Kolkata

Kolkata is a vibrant metropolitan city and the capital of the West Bengal state. The city has always been in the focal point of interest since the ancient times. It has got something to offer to someone irrespective of the fact whether one is a resident of the city or comes to the city as a tourist or for business purpose. The city has excelled in the spheres of education, sports, entertainment and infrastructure. Life of the Kolkatans has improved and would improve more in the coming years as well. As soon as the day breaks, the city gets lively and musical with trams, buses, cars and motorcycles that ply in the main roads. However, the streets and the by-lanes are not exception to this rule. You would find people moving around or going to their work in hand-pulled rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws, cycles and autos. So, a question may arise now how do people relax or unwind here? Well, there are many maidans or parks spreading in every nook and corner of the city where one may relax at any time of the day including the morning and evening.

Park Circus Maidan in Central Kolkata
Park Circus not only rated as a lively park but also one of the biggest parks in the city of Kolkata. It is suitably located at the Park Circus, opposite of the Park Circus Tram Depot. The park has a corner Children Park, Traffic Police Training corner, a corner where small plants are preserved and some coaching clubs. The park mostly frequented by locals and children during the day. Besides, it also serves the purpose of morning and evening walkers who flock in the park for regular workouts. Occasionally, it also holds various sports and religious activities. However, it's during the Durga Puja and winter season the park attends record number of visitors. During Durga Puja, the park gets decorated with lighting and rich designer pandals. People come here from far and wide to witness the Goddess Durga idol here. Moreover, during the winter the park hosts several fairs, exhibitions and expos for the public. It is also popular for arranging Circus in winter that goes on for a couple of month. However, the year 2014 (this winter) an exception because it withdrew from arranging the event. The decision is taken in view to co-operate with the government (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) and police to solve the traffic problem as some construction work is going on in the locality.

No doubt it's located in a busy locality with schools, colleges, hospitals, mosques, temples, gurdwaras, police station located close by. The Don Bosco School is one of the top rated schools in Kolkata locates at the opposite side. Besides, the Lady Brabourne College and the Chittaranjan Medical College Hospital located at the opposite as well. The Park Circus Seven-Point Crossing is one of the busiest zones where traffic pours in from all the direction.

The park has been renovated and modified for facilitating the regular local visitors. One expects much more would be done in the coming years keeping the visitors in mind. Plenty of seating places and one public restroom available inside the park. Refreshments and drinks like lemon tea and sarbets available inside the park. Some food stalls selling fast food, tea, coffee, snack and fruits available outside the park. The popular Arsalan Restaurant located at the opposite side of the park near the Seven-Point Crossing. The park remains open from 5am to 10pm every day.
