CMDA Millennium Park in Kolkata: Attractions, Activities and Rides

Kolkata, known as the city of Joy, popular for its rich culture, heritage and traditions. A metropolitan city that has prospered in multiple spheres since the historical times. People living here are jovial, caring, loving and friendly by nature. Recently, it has also earned the fame as the best city of 2014 in terms of the lesser number of crimes and safety aspects. One has to accept the city has developed leaps and bounds and still developing as an ideal place for living and as a means of livelihood. Situated at the banks of the Hooghly river the city rated as one of the best touring city of the country. Rightly so! It has great historical structures, monuments, museums, amusement parks, complexes, theatres, etc., for the people either living here or touring here for a few days.




Today Life Breezy takes a close look at one of its amusement parks, the Millennium Park located at the bank of the Hooghly river.

This amusement park built in the year 2000 and since then it has been one of the most sought after places for the Kolkatans and the visitors coming here. The park is under the authority of the CMDA body. No doubt, it's a well-maintained park at the Hooghly riverbank. The park is divided into Part 1 and Part II, locating close to each other. An all-in-one spot for the nature lovers, elders and children to spend few hours in a clean and green surrounding. During the winter people living in the neighbouring regions also come here for the picnic activity. However, care must be taken as plastic items are not allowed inside the park because of environmental concerns.

You have plenty of options inside the park to get yourself entertained the way to like. Explore the beautifully decorated park stretching over an area of 2.5 kilometres at the bank of the river Hooghly, view the well-maintained gardens, enjoy amusement rides or get yourself rested on any of the benches inside the park. Time would pass like a wink while you enjoy the panoramic view of the river. Jetties, steamers and ships ply on the bosom of the river. You may enjoy a cruise on the river water as well because this is facilitated here by the West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation Limited (WBSTCL) authority. Jetties like the MV Ahalya available for the public leisure cruising. The cruising charges on the MV Ahalya is RS 100 per head for an hour. Besides drinking water, bathrooms and several restaurants available inside the park for the visitors. Within the park a luxurious hotel available for those looking for suitable lodging and food.

Charges and timing

The entry fee is RS 5 per head. However, one needs to pay extra for the different rides and cruising facility. The cruising charges is RS 100 per head while the charges for the different rides varies from RS 10 to RS 20. The park is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm.

To get there

If you are coming from the Howrah Station board any bus like the 24A/1, Howrah-Golfgreen minibus, Howrah-Picnic Garden minibus, etc., to get down at the BBD Bag bus stop. From here you need to walk a few minutes to reach the spot. It's located at the opposite of the Shipping Corporation Building on the Strand Road, Kolkata.
